Oxford Walmart Store 809 Celebrates Major Renovation and Community
Oxford, Alabama came together on Friday, October 2, 2026, as Walmart Supercenter Store 809 celebrated the completion of a major renovation, marking a new chapter in the store’s 41-year history.
Valarie Price joins fellow Walmart associates who have dedicated many years of service to Store 809 and the Oxford community for the official ribbon-cutting ceremony. With nearly four decades of Walmart service, Price also played a vital role in helping organize the celebration alongside other event organizers and store management. Together, they helped make the reopening a memorable milestone for Walmart Store 809.
The celebration highlighted the store’s updated shopping experience, including wider aisles and updated layouts, new and expanded displays and assortments, expanded pickup and delivery options including express delivery, and refreshed interior and exterior signage.
The event was also a celebration of the Oxford community and the associates who help make Store 809 part of the area’s story.

The Oxford Fire Department added to the celebration with a large American Flag display, while Oxford Yellow Jacket cheerleaders welcomed visitors and Walmart associates.

A DJ kept the energy moving, and the Oxford High School “Sound of Champions” pep band performed fight songs as the crowd gathered.

Guests also enjoyed free swag bags, product samples, the Oxford Yellow Jacket mascot, and a special appearance by Tony the Tiger.
Store Manager Adam Careng opened the ceremony and recognized the hard work of the store’s 400 associates. Oxford City Council President Chris Spurlin offered a blessing for the store and its associates, and Oxford Health Systems paramedic Carla Jones sang the National Anthem.
Oxford Mayor Alton Craft also addressed the gathering, sharing the story of late Walmart founder Sam Walton visiting Oxford while looking for a location for a new store. Mayor Craft also recalled Walmart’s response following the March 2018 tornado that devastated Jacksonville, when Walmart connected with first responders and Oxford Walmart managers and associates quickly helped provide food, water, and essential supplies.
MAWH Productions was honored to capture this special celebration through photography and video. For me, moments like this are about more than documenting an event—they are about preserving the people, partnerships, and community stories behind it.

Thank you to Walmart Store 809 and everyone who helped make the celebration special. It was a privilege to be there and tell the story through visuals.
